Mike A. Minnifield, an 11 year old boy, has just moved from the city to volunteer at Tomorrow Ark, a zoo for creatures never believed to exist in the distant future When he goes exploring the Coniferous Forest Exhibit, he meets a girl tour guide-in training, Paula Hougland, and the two can hardly wait to explore the future world around them Their first close encounter is a tree-dwelling squid known as a calamarin. But, soon they come face-to-face with a huge land relative: A fifteen-foot tall, 8 elephant-legged mammoth squid, who would like to eat their tree-swinging friend Will they be able to rescue their new pal and return home, safely?
