Time, what is time? Sociologically we define time as the progression of our lives from the past to the present and into the future. The past is in our memories and the future is in our plans, hopes and dreams. If a three dimensional system is not changing, it is frozen in time. In fact for Albert Einstein, space, time and gravity were all part of matter and could not exist separate from one another. Each is an extension of the other, much like up from down or left from right. We as humans are limited in space and time, locked in our own thoughts and feelings, experiencing these aspects of life uniquely and separate from one another. Space is experienced in three dimensions, up-down, left-right and fore-aft; these are the x, y and z coordinates of the Cartesian coordinate system in Euclidean space.
Time however, is included in the four-dimensional Minkowski space-time coordinate system of x, y, z, and ct or "coordinate time". Here, there are three dimensions in Euclidean space, the foundation of ancient geometry. It is the passing of time that allows us to learn; through learning we begin to understand things and then with that understanding, we then know what things are and know what to do in different situations. "Time keeps on slipping into the future".
