It Needs To Be Done: How to persuade others to do it with less hassles and stress Almost all work is accomplished in groups or teams. Since we usually can't make people do "It" (the work), wouldn't it be wonderful if we could more successfully persuade others to willingly do "It"? Wouldn't it be great to significantly reduce our stress and hassles in the process? This "how-to" handbook presents the Dynamic Influencing Model(c) and the six tried and true skills needed to be successful in the team environment, either as a team member or team leader. It is also a reference book that you can use to find out how to reduce the stress in handling specific situations such as: What's the real issue here? What can I do to insure completion? What can I do to build trust with people? It is frustrating when people don't do what they are expected to, even paid to do. We need the skills to persuade them and hold them accountable. They don't see the big picture, so we must be able to lead them through the process; from getting them on board, to giving them positive feedback when it is completed. Whatever your position, you can benefit from this book. Individual contributors need to influence others and their boss to get support and resources. A team leader or project manger may be in the position of having "major responsibility" and "minor authority." Persuasion skills are your essential resource. As a manager you may have "position power" but you lose trust every time you use it instead of persuasion. Here's how the book works. First it's a handbook that provides the Dynamic Influencing Model(c) of the entire persuasion process from "Need" to "Accomplishment." Second, it develops the six skills needed for effective persuasion. They are: Adapt the Message; Determine the Real Issue; Build Trust; Confront Without Conflict; Clarify the Response; and Give Positive Feedback. The skills and techniques are very specific down to exactly what words to use to get results, without creating conflict. The beauty of learning new people skills is they will only improve your interactions. Try them out. You may find ones that make a significant difference for you.
