Islands in the Stream

As a senior mental health lead, your role is an island in the stream, a safe port for students and colleagues to weather the storms. Having undertaken this challenge, you will require support and resources to be effective and, crucially, leave a legacy to future SMHLs to aid the continuation of the role.



Islands in the Stream is a general toolkit to equip you with the versatility and knowledge needed to cultivate mental wellbeing and respond to the ever-changing needs of your school. It will help you create a culture where children thrive, bettering the mental health and wellbeing of those within the school community and beyond. 



Whether a new or experienced SMHL, you will find a wealth of resources to help guide you through the requirements of the role, including the auditing process, purposeful interventions, and the ethical dilemmas you will face. All while protecting and future-proofing your own mental wellbeing and the mental health of those around you.
