INTRODUCTION
1.1 GENERAL
Matrix Converters (MC) are essentially 4-quadrant forced
commutated converter and are formed by connecting a bi-directional switch
cells in a matrix form. They are capable of fabricating an arbitrary output
the voltage of variable frequency and magnitude. Factors like single stage
transformation of voltage and frequency, bi-directional power flow capability,
sinusoidal input and output voltage, more compact size, low weight, and DC
link-free architecture, make this converter more attractive than a standard two
stage converter.
