Mary's involvement starts at an early age and could well destroy her. Haunted by vicious dreams, she prays that her brother will come to her rescue. Claire loses her family by murder and betrayal and is forced to run for her life. The close tie to her schoolmates from Paris is her only refuge. Richard knows his father, also a cop, was murdered. When he is unable continue working as a cop in the town where he grew up, he relocates to Chicago where his life intersects with Mary's and Claire's.
