Beskrivelse
This study investigates the influence of drought periods and climate change on the growth of the common juniper (Juniperus communis) in an inner-alpine dry valley on the Mieminger Plateau (Tyrol). Using dendroecological methods and increment drilling, the effects of precipitation deficiency and rising temperatures on radial stem growth are analyzed. The results show that juniper is less adapted to increasing drought than Pinus sylvestris. While more vigorous juniper specimens show constant growth, weaker plants show strong declines in growth. This study provides important insights into the adaptability of plants in dry alpine regions and their response to climate change.
