Beskrivelse

The second book in the Angus Quinn series finds police veteran Sergeant Angus Quinn and his young partner Officer Paulie Abbott investigating the mysterious death of an unidentified young woman on the steps of a New York City dress shop in the heat of the summer in 1893. With the help of the dressmaker's Irish Setter, they follow a trail that leads to a private dinner club with very particular membership requirements. They soon discover that, strangely enough, the club has connections to a local meatpacking plant that is processing much more than cattle for the benefit of the Tammany Society, a corrupt political group controlling New York City leadership. When Sergeant Quinn learns that his own precinct captain is a member of the 1789 Club, Quinn is pressured to join the club, thereby gaining membership into the Tammany Society, as well as a promotion to captain with his own police precinct to lead. Quinn and Abbott soon find themselves and their families in mortal danger when the sergeant declines the invitation to join the Society and participate in its shady activities. Captain O'Flannery, a long-time friend, or so Quinn thought, orders coercion tactics to be used to lure Quinn into the fold with the unfortunate loss of the Quinn family home and his wife and son in the hospital with life-changing injuries. Sergeant Quinn and Officer Abbott devise a plan that will expose police corruption all the way up to the Police Commissioner with dire consequences in the ranks of the constabulary, and new dangers for the two of them.
