Novelist and Gastroenterologist Michael Weisberg, M.D. crafted the idea for In The End from a routine procedure.  Before putting patients to sleep for their colonoscopies, he asks them if they have any questions. Many comically reply, "Doc, what's the meaning of life?"  He always replies that this question cannot be answered because there is no one meaning to life, but instead the question should be, what gives meaning to your individual life?
