In Defense of Respect, Honor, & Titles

What is the importance of respect, honor, and titles in the Church today. Are there reasons for using Church titles? We rent a "Ben Hur" movie or watch the "Passion" and think that we understand ancient life. But, watching a few movies doesn't give us great insight into the Middle Eastern mind of 2000 years ago. To think that we can fully comprehend or appreciate how the first church lived or what they thought about titles would surpass the grasp of all possibility. The Bible is about people from another era who lived lives totally different from ours. One of their strongest Jewish social customs was RESPECT.
