Beskrivelse

Migration and immigration have always been a very distinctive feature for humanities since the dawn of civilization . Migration generally means movement within the boundaries of a nation state while immigration means moving to a different nation state. Therefore, immigration can be problematic at times and is an issue which is always hotly debated. At best , it can be enriching, while at worst, it can breed resentment and bigotry. Yet immigration cannot be extinguished, and so it must be properly managed and controlled. Failure to do so can only lead to more illegal immigrants and refugees, with unquantifiable social and human costs.

The writer of this book has been an immigrant , not once , but twice. He moved from China to Hong Kong, then Hong Kong to UK. This book was an effort by the writer to show how he handled life as an immigrant, with the ups and the downs of being an immigrant.

In so doing, he has also attempted to share his personal views on the very brief history of immigration especially in the last 200 years when global travel was no longer the stuff for fairy tales. The social, economic, cultural and political impact of immigration were also discussed. Where relevant, recent debates and published information on various aspects of immigration are also mentioned in this book.
