Beskrivelse

In 1953, the Canadian government moved several Inuit families 1,200 miles from their coastal village in eastern Quebec to remote islands in the High Arctic. Why? Was it to protect the Inuit people and their culture from civilization as the government claimed, or for economic and political purposes as the evidence suggest? Perhaps it was a bit of both? Did the Inuit go willingly, or were they coerced? Either way, almost everything that could go wrong inevitably did, and it would be a half century before the myriad questions would be resolved. In the interim, the Inuit suffering was immeasurable. A fatherless, nine-year-old boy was among the Inuit exiles. "Noot," as he was called, was peculiar in many ways. Foremost, he was genetically "unique." Some believed he was cursed and they feared him. Others mocked or simply ignored him. He was the token outcast among a forsaken people. As it were, an unfortunate accident and Noot's heroic rescue of a young girl alters his status, but he is unaware. He has been stricken by illness to the brink of death. Before releasing him, it leaves an indelible mark. Noot is plagued with a strange dream. And it proves a calling on his life that will help save his people.
