Beskrivelse
Jane Newberry is celebrated for her work as a children's author and illustrator. Her debut poetry collection, Hoyden's Trove, showcases her keen ability to take the prosaic and transform it into the poetic. Many of the poems in the book reflect her life and work in the beautiful rural surrounds of Cornwall, England.
What they said about this book:
"Jane Newberry's poems have an intimate quality, akin to those moments when long-hoarded treasures are brought to light. Whether with the care and precision of archaeology, or the boisterous joy of childhood, these poems discover and they recover: by turns reverent and irreverent, they show a capacity for wonder that remains undiminished by the hard-won knowledge of grief and loss." - James Brookes
"The poems in Hoyden's Trove circle around the mysteries and rewards of family life, drawing the reader into detailed, delicate moments to reveal a perfectly chosen present, a flash of fear, the Proustian scent of lemon balm on a remembered holiday. These poems take great care to observe, to recall, to examine in fine detail, and then to offer up the gift of that memory to be shared with us, the fortunate reader." - Martha Sprackland
"Hoyden's Trove really is a treasure chest of poetic delight. Moving deftly from childlike wonder to elegiac reflection and back again, Newberry's poems create moments of being that entice and console. From a Cornish creek to a gift of shiny new pencils, a time-deep falconer to the joy of children clapping, places and people are sketched with clarity and heart, captured by a poetic voice that is playful, profound, and generously welcoming. 'Could this be enchantment?' one poem asks: 'yes,' we whisper in reply." - Dr Laura Varnam
"She makes poems that make music. These are the songs of her life. I hope they reach a wide audience. They most certainly should." - Michael Morpurgo
