Beskrivelse
In the desolate world of "Hope," Juniper grapples with the aftermath of a cataclysmic event-the Nuclear War-that ravaged Earth three centuries ago. The planet's surface lies in ruins, rendered uninhabitable by devastation. Those who survived sought refuge underground, huddled within bunkers.
Over time, humanity found fragile connections through radios bridging the gaps between isolated pockets of survivors. Tunnels were painstakingly carved out, linking these subterranean shelters. Within this labyrinth of darkness, a clandestine underground city emerged-a fragile web of life clinging to existence.
But all is not as straightforward as it seems. In this stark reality, shades of gray have no place; only stark black and white decisions persist. Juniper, on the cusp of her seventeenth birthday, faces a grim fate. She is torn from her mother's embrace, joining the second wave of seventeen-year-olds destined for Discovery-a mandatory rite of passage.
Discovery is a brutal test. Juniper and her peers must learn skills to contribute to the Compound, the heart of their underground society. Six months is all they have. Fail, and they are cast into the radiation above, where death awaits. The Council, the enigmatic ruling body, brooks no dissent. Disobey, and you're discarded like trash.
At the apex of this power stands Jaila, the head council member-an entity with more authority than anyone else. Yet even Jaila is beholden to the unforgiving rules of this subterranean existence. In this world, compliance is survival; defiance is a death sentence.
