Can a ninety-second interaction at a convenience store lead to a friendship? Or even a romance? Even an interaction that leaves an unpleasant taste in a woman's mouth. Rick Cameron's ex-wife divorced him years earlier for physical abuse; where he came close to killing her. After a private divorce, her sister and father urge her to move away and change her name to escape retaliation from her former husband. Over the next few years, everything seems to get better. Her fear and injuries heal and the terrible memories fade.
But on one of her regular trips to visit her sister in Virginia, her former husband has found out her new identity. And her time with her sister turns into a nightmare. A former police officer, Cameron, is released from the department for police brutality. He fumes and blames all his troubles on his ex-wife and seems unable to get a grip on his anger. Through this, the highway construction engineer she met while getting a coffee, befriends her through a series of unplanned events. And incurs the wrath of Rick Cameron upon himself.
Can a man who doesn't even know a woman's name help her? And can he save himself while he's at it? This is a slow burn romance on the backdrop of a deadly scenario, one where there seems to be no viable resolution.
