Beskrivelse
Hebrew Literature and the 1948 War: Essays on Philology and Responsibility is the first book that deals with the issue of the Nakba from a point of view which shows how rare it is that Hebrew Literature takes responsibility for the Palestinian Nakba. Through a rigorous reading of canonical Hebrew literary texts, the book develops a model of critical perspective of a national violence, and contributes to the theory of a moralistic nationalistic responsibility of the national state. The language of Hebrew poetry and fiction includes symptoms of Israeli national violence. The literary language produces a clear picture of Palestine as an arena where the violent clash between the perpetrators and the victims takes place.
