Hawk Dove Ridge: A Novel

Gem Dougherty, a twenty-two-year-old woman, has just started to find her way in the world. She approaches most things with compassion and logic as she strives to always do the right thing. When it comes to her relationship with her mother, who named her Gemini Star because she was born under the Zodiac sign Gemini, she struggles to find middle ground. Gem's best friend since middle school, Bridget, changes the course of Gem's life simply by inviting her to go with her for a two week visit to see Bridget's older brother, James who moved to Oklahoma from their hometown in Massachusetts. Gem jumps at the chance to see her secret high school crush again. Gem acclimates to the tight-knit, religious community that James is a part of. She makes friends easily, but her people-pleasing personality can get her into hot water sometimes. She is no pushover, however. Gem can be fiercely defiant and determined when it comes to survival and educating women on self-defense. She has many tough decisions to make along the way. Some of them are life and death.
