A family of ragged, but gifted, children, moves into a small rural town and disrupts the quiet routine of its school. It is time for the talent show, the biggest school event of the year. Floyd Ray wants to throw knives at a bullseye, and Jenny Sue says she will play a fiddle piece. The star pupil Abigail plays classical piano pieces that usually win, and this year's large money award encourages her to practice especially hard.
