Beskrivelse
How can political opposition be understood a polity which does not feature the institutionalized dualism of government majority and parliamentary minority? The approach of this book is to analyze the petition rights of party groups and members in the European Parliament. The focus is on roll-call vote requests and the introduction of amendments. Based on the premise that opposition forms ad hoc and depending on the issue at stake, the interaction patterns observable in plenary are traced back to the antecedent decision-making process in the standing committees. The empirical analysis combines interview data with statistical and qualitative-comparative analyses.
