Gold Quartz Veins of the Alleghany District, California - by Henry Ferguson & Roger Gannett - Alleghany is located in the heart of the Mother lode country in Sierra County, CA and is probably the richest district in the Mother Lode. Most famous in this district is the 16 to One Mine which is still operating today on a limited basis. This district is famous for its pure white Quartz intertwined with Gold.
