Global War on Women Veterans: Spiritual Resources to Resist Invisibility, Injustice and Misogyny is a call to resistance, courage and to spiritual formation. The writers are Barbara Summey Marshall, a former Navy Chaplain, Womanist Theologue and Advocate. The other is Maya Valrissa L. Marshall, a US. Army Afghanistan Combat Veteran, World traveler, HBCU Student and SisterFriend to Many. In 2005, the Marshall- Neely family opened their family home to homeless women veterans and then in August 2010 purchased their first of three VA foreclosures in Fort Bragg/Fayetteville, NC These women veterans took the risk and opened their hearts, their homes and purses to help women veterans and their families elude homelessness. There is a Global War on Women Veterans in the form of sexual assault, violence, sabotage, mass incarceration, fear tactics and more. The GWOWV has reminded of how strong we are are in our broken places. The GWOWV has also reminded of the need to rely on available spiritual resources and on communities of faith. These veterans were jailed, evicted and discredited by the local community. Women veterans were not viewed as worthy of the high dollar house. Nevertheless, women veterans have persisted. The struggle continues to honor the service & sacrifice of women veterans.
