Being inspired by Jim Harrison and living in the southwest my whole life, I read a line about "a river never singing the same song twice." It immediately started the wheels turning about all the arroyos and dried up riverbeds I had grown up near. I have always written about water and its various forms, i.e., rivers, lakes, oceans, or rain...and this idea left me daydreaming of the rivers that had once ran strong hundreds of years ago. How their song might have gone, and how when the monsoon season comes around, we get a glimpse into how they once sang. The book has four sections; Headwaters, Floodplains, Watermarks, and Tidal...these pieces have been assembled over the last few years as I wandered the lower forty-eight states of the union. Between the headwaters of the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes last summer, inspiration was through the roof and I was able to finish up the collection. I have had these pieces in a manuscript, awaiting this open submission.
