At the beginning of the civil war Theresa Stone and her freed slave, Augusta form the Lady's Aide Society to help displaced women to rebuild their lives in an age when women were chatel. Theresa's great great granddaughter Tessie discovers the secret of the Lady's Aide Society as the traditions of the pioneers are carried on by the modern day Lady's Aide Society with their secret home remedy for battered women.
