Beskrivelse
This work provides, for the first time, a comprehensive and comparative characterization of the little- reviewed body of sources that are the wills of German princes from 1600 to 1800. Royal wills are proving to be an important medium of communication between generations of royal houses, and serve in dynastic, political, and denominational ways as a continuing stability after the death of a ruler. As wills provide a self-reported reflection of their experiences, they serve to provide insight into the level of authority the prince was believed to have had, and provide a chronological view of changes within a dynasty.
