At nineteen, I was focused on girls and motorcycles. I had a relationship with Christ, but it was on my terms. After leaving college for lack of funds, I went to work in a feed mill in downtown Minneapolis. In that feed mill, working under very poor conditions, I met two guys whom God used to change my life. These two former hippies had come to Christ and were totally surrendered to Him. I had never experienced men living out their faith so boldly and authentically. They exuded God's character. On breaks, they'd pull tattered New Testaments from their pockets and devour God's Word as if they'd die without it. After watching these two men for a couple weeks, I went home one night, knelt by my bed and begged God to give me the kind of relationship with Him that I saw modeled by these two men. God answered my prayer and I haven't been the same since One of the changes God brought about in me was an insatiable desire to get to know Him better by hanging out with Him in His Word. Jeremiah declared, "When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty." (Jeremiah 15:16) Jeremiah's prayer has become mine. And if his prayer is not yours already, I pray that this book will lead you there. - Rob Fischer
