From the Chief

Shortly after American Cop(TM) magazine began publication a few years ago I was asked by the Editor to consider writing a quarterly column which discussed pertinent law enforcement issues of the day from the perspective of a department head. From the Chief was the title of that column and it graced every issue, at first quarterly and then monthly, until the magazine ceased publication in August 2014. This book is a compilation of all of the From the Chief columns printed in American Cop and are included with permission. I appreciate their permission to use those columns. In addition there are other articles which either were submitted for publication prior to the demise of the magazine or which I have written since then. While some readers of this little book may not agree with my position on some issues, I hope that these writings at least generate some thought about the important subjects they address. As I suspect most readers of this work will be law enforcement professionals please be safe out there and always, always adhere to your Oath of Office.
