Sofa was excited to get home as tomorrow was her birthday. Instead her world crashes when she learns Nana has died and she is now in foster care. Life was different living with Carol and Jack in a home much nicer than the one she'd be in. However, before they could settle in, Grandmother came. She wanted custody of Sofa, but would the court make her go to the home where the woman clearly hated her? When she gave her ipecac in her drink, Sofa was sick for a day. Carol and Jack vowed to make sure she never had to do that again. Sofa did enjoy getting to go to the new school where Nana had worked and getting to be part of the music program. The music teacher signed her up for the music competition and Sofa was worried about if she was good enough to go up against kids who had played for their entire life. Could Sofa play on the stage and not mess up? What would happen if she did win? All the time, Jack and Carol were there to support her, until Carol gets pregnant. Would they still want a nine-year-old girl when they had a baby of their own? Was Sofa going to have to move again? What happens when they take her to the group home and the girls who hate her are there? Can she survive when they attack her? Read how Sofa becomes Sophia and the struggles she faces as she goes through the foster care system.
