This book provides an impressive account of the pioneering technical achievements of the German economic theorist Friedrich List (1789-1846) during his exile in the USA. With the project planning and construction of the Little Schuylkill Railroad in Pennsylvania, List contributed significantly to the development of the coal deposits there and thus to the development of heavy industry in the USA.
