Isaac Gause, served in Company E, 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, during the Civil War reaching the rank of sergeant. 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment fought in the Knoxville Campaign, Battle of the Wilderness, Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley Campaign and finally the Appomattox Campaign.
