Forget Me Not - Losing my Partner with Alzheimer's Dementia. A novel of Love Lost.
A life experience of witnessing my partner's demise with the disease Alzheimer's Dementia.
An articulate man with a mechanical mind and engineering ability to shave 100th of an inch off a piece of steel and have the item fit perfectly into the moving part of the item he was working on. This man had travelled around Australia several times yet went to The Rock central Australia at least 7 times and never climbed it once. His view was it was a lump of sandstone in the middle of a desert. He carried a wealth of knowledge of places in the Northern Territory and around Australia. He used to drive the centre road, Darwin, to Alice Springs several times a week and knew it like the back of his hand. He found his passion in the Northern Territory Electricity Commission with 22 apprentices under him in the maintenance team with the maintenance of the Turbines used at the time.
His demise and loss of memory were devastating to his immediate family and extended friends. Barry shared so much knowledge and to witness this demise truly impacted me and our daughter in ways we could never have been prepared to witness. I didn't even know what it all meant, let alone understand. Barry never saw anything wrong and in his own words, he would share there was nothing wrong with him it was all wrong with me. A very hard road to witness and to truly watch the impact this had not only on Barry, however, on his immediate family as well. A huge emotional journey.
This book is to share the impact of what was witnessed and to share how it impacted family and some of the implications that occurred as we mastered the journey of managing what was to be a very heartfelt and emotional journey. Whilst shared from the partner's viewpoint of all incidences that occurred and the impact of what was witnessed in the hope to bring awareness to others who may be on this journey as well. No two will be the same on this journey and the aim of the book is to be a compassionate guide for all who read. It's not an easy journey and this book will touch lives for all who read.
