The declared objective of German integration policy is to enable people with migratory backgrounds to have the same opportunity as everybody else to participate in all key areas of society. In particular for the younger generations, this objective is imperative, because the proportion of people with migratory backgrounds is bound to grow. A key policy area is therefore youth and family welfare policy in Germany. Despite similar motivation, young people with a migrant background and a high educational orientation among their parents have lower chances of social participation compared to young Germans. This volume presents the current situation. Various contributions show how parents, regardless of their background, education or social status can be empowered in the integration process and how they can support their children. How the resources and potentials of young people with a migrant background can be recognised and how their social participation can be promoted is demonstrated in the last section using examples of concrete measures and schemes.
