Beskrivelse
Tissue engineering is an emerging multidisciplinary field that aims to regenerate damaged or lost tissues/organs of living organisms using a combination of cells and scaffolds. Scaffolds provide environments for cells/tissues to grow in an orderly manner and become functionalized into new tissues/organs. When considering the importance of intercellular interactions between scaffolds and implanted surrounding cells/tissues, significant efforts have been made to design an artificial extracellular matrix (ECM) consisting of complex fibrous structures. Electrospun scaffolds have remarkable potential to provide nanoscale/microscale fibrous structures that are similar to the native ECM. This book focuses on the current state of fibrous scaffold production techniques in 2-D and 3-D dimensions and their recent tissue engineering applications.
