ARCHIVES is a Collection of Letters, Documents and Photographs - 1970 to 2020.In The Beginning (after Elvis and The Beatles) in Europe, there was Anglo-Pop, Prog Rock, Krautrock, the Cosmic Couriers, & Popol Vuh. Later, the ancient futuristic spectacles of Luis Perez & Urban Sax performing LIVE, and much later sharing the PDX FuzzFest stage with Chocolate Watchband in 2018.This and much more are documented in the fifth Eurock book, ARCHIVES. It chronicles 50 years of a life in music - and quite rare and influential music at that. This new book is comprised of historical documents sent over the years to Archie Patterson for use as promotional material for Eurock, both the radio program and the magazine. For the first two decades of Eurock's existence there was no WWW, email or Facebook... In the beginning, letters were written and answered by mail. Early issues of the magazine were typed on a manual typewriter, then Xeroxed, hand collated, stapled and stuffed into envelopes for mailing. From those simple beginnings the word spread all around the world. Soon musicians and small independent labels from everywhere began submitting their material for play and review and the readership grew, slowly but surely.ARCHIVES is a real-time adventure story that chronicles experimental music and its impact on culture. The journey is visual, kaleidoscopic storytelling montage of art, posters and photos featuring seminal artists, both famous and obscure. They all played a part in the creation of a new alternative "Second Culture" worldwide and Eurock told the story. And today still, the Beat goes on...Over the years there were many people who helped and encouraged him."Archie, Thanks for the latest Eurock and your note. It's impressive to see you still going strong after all these years, and I'm aware that you've become quite an institution."- Greg Shaw - Voxx Records, A Division of BOMP RECORDS, Los Angeles CA"Our Music" began shortly before Archie started to write about it. I have to point out that he was the very first one who took E.M. seriously and did a fanzine about it. This was some 4,000 miles away from where the music was happening, in a pre-fax era. When I hear his name, or EUROCK, another word comes to my mind: honesty. I wish this will last. It's all too rare."Klaus D. Muller - Publisher POEM Musik, Manager Klaus Schulze, Berlin"Ahhh, the good old days... I started doing Music from the Hearts of Space in 1973, and met Eurock's fearless leader in 1976. I remember talking to him on the phone when he was in Fresno, then doing an interview in 1978 in the original Alabama Street Hearts of Space studio. We both shared a passion for European progressive music. Later on in the 80s, I visited him on a trip to LA. His 'Garden apartment' was a haven of good food and good music in the epicenter of the SoCal wasteland. One thing I can predict for sure: Archie will always be around!" Stephen Hill - Producer, Hearts of Space, San Rafael, CAThis is a fascinating collection from the files of Eurock radio and magazine. Starting from Fresno in 1973 Archie Patterson his DIY media became the crucial American node for otherwise obscure continental European "second culture" musics. Relocating to Portland in 1976, then again in 1984 (after a few years spent in Los Angeles, Calif.)Archie was beating the drum for German, French, East European, et. al. rock, electronic, space and progressive music ever after. It was Archie who hooked Tangerine Dream up with Michael Mann in Hollywood, then released and distributed imprisoned Czech underground band Plastic People of the Universe's music. Archie was the one American to get on every European underground promotional list. Archives presents rare images, letters, and communiqués to help complete the Eurock portrait of that era which began with his earlier books...
