Beskrivelse
Archduke Charles of Austria (1771-1847), the third son of Emperor Leopold II and thus the younger brother of the Emperor Francis II (I), is considered to have been one of the most important military challengers of Napoleon on the Austrian side, due chiefly to his famous victory of Aspern in 1809. This monograph presents the author's recent research on this outstanding Habsburg prince, as based on intellectual history methods. It focuses on the development of Archduke Charles's character, analyses his intellectual life systematically and looks closely at his religious beliefs.
