An asteroid gets past our defenses and slams into Yellowstone National Park with dire consequences for all life on Earth!
Retired volcanologist Marcus Hunter takes custody of his orphaned fourteen-year-old granddaughter, who was getting into trouble, hoping a sailing voyage on his ship the Windancer with his family would be good for her, but a mysterious message in a bottle sends them to Chile on an adventure to an ancient society inside the Tronador Volcano.
A small iron asteroid gets past our defenses, slamming into Yellowstone National Park, causing an eruption similar to Mount Saint Helens, but the impact also puts pressure on the volcanoes around the Pacific Rim, which are showing signs of activity. If the pressure is not relieved, they will erupt, turning day into night, killing all life on the surface.
With ash already spreading across the plains, clogging air filters on electrical generators and vehicles, causing people to go into survival mode, the president activates the Walnut scenario, where pre-selected people will move into an underground complex. At least, that's the plan for one family on the list, as they fight to survive the chaos and get to the facility before it's too late.
Marcus learns the society under the volcano is just the caretakers of a massive underground complex, with a computer capable of answering any question a human could ask. It also controls their incredible power generation system, using heat exchangers submerged in molten magma. It gives Marcus an idea how to stop the eruptions, but he would be destroying the ancient society, with no guarantee it will work.
Pirates, cannibalism, Betrayal, and earthquakes are part of this epic adventure, where the fate of all life on the surface depends on Marcus and the crew of the Windancer. A fantastic ride, with thrilling scenarios, exhilarating situations, and nail-biting suspense, by this bestselling and award-winning author.
