El equipaje del rey Jos is the first novel in the second series of Episodios Nacionales by Benito P rez Gald s. The title is an ironic reference to the loot stolen by French soldiers following their retreat towards the end of the War of Independence. Salvador, the main figure of the novel, tells of the brave guerilla fighters and the actions of both French and Spanish soldiers.
