Epilepsy Lessons for Independent Living Series, Book One: Taking Time to Process Post Diagnosis Ms Fehr talks about how to take this time and why it is important. Ms Fehr also discusses one of the first and likely most important shocks to our system; no driving until we are seizure free for a set amount of time. Most are set to about 6 or 12 months. We need time to process post diagnosis so we can first and foremost wrap our own heads around what the doctor has just told us. They are still standing or sitting there in front of us and we are sitting there with a short circuit happening in our brain. Our brain is trying to compartmentalize this new information however, there has been no place reserved for this kind of thing so our brain starts telling us to get answers before we all but pass out. Ms Fehr recounts, "Well, my brain got shall we say hot under the collar. I didn't even have a thought in my head, but my head sure hurt like crazy. Needless to say I was an ultra unhappy patient. There I was sitting in front of my neurologist having one of my infamous rage seizures. That's later in the series in Epilepsy Lessons for Living Independently Series: Book 6 Anxiety, Social Situations, Games, Movies and Concerts. What's the Deal?"Disclaimer; I do not know everything about Epilepsy or seizure disorders. This is simply my experience that I am sharing with you. I do not make any medical claims or guarantees that what has worked with me will work with you. We are all different people after all.
