Envy's Arrows

Envy is often thought to be man's most grievous offense. And a dangerous one, too, as picturesque Belmont's artistic community is finding out. Untested writer Queenie Dodds has written a blockbuster bestseller, destined to be a Hollywood film. Veteran authors Ava Quick and Iris Woolsey are promoting their latest novels. As the spotlight shines upon Belmont, not everyone is pleased. Eve Kimbrough, for one, resents her colleagues' fame and fortune. She would demand her own.



When documentary filmmaker Norman Pertwee arrives in town to interview local artists, he steps on the toes of a local public television station. He is the first to suffer the consequences of resentment. A popular professor at Ashbury College rises in the ranks, only to find a comrade trying to threaten his good fortune. A noted magazine publisher finds she has made one executive decision too many. On a lighter note, charming Dexter Tipton envies an old friend's finesse with the ladies and decides to dive into Belmont society with newfound abandon.



Belmont must endure yet another round of investigations for its share of national celebrity. Chief Inspector Freddy Donovan and his new protege, Axel Fox, join Iris Woolsey in a hunt for the bad guys.
