The metropolis besides having its socio-economic importance can be sustainable, some authors advocate compact cities as sustainable because the concentration of people centralized near their jobs and the diversity of trade optimize and minimize the displacement reducing transportation costs and consequently reducing the emission of pollutants from vehicles whether from public transport or private and consequent centralization of public services reducing costs saving the public purse.
