Katey Frost, an ex-teacher has retired to her hometown of Pine Falls, a small country town that she adores. Although the townsfolk had initially blamed Katey for all the recent troubles that had occurred, they have begun to accept her as part of the community after learning the truth.

But that is about to change.

The serial killer that Chief of Police, Patrick O'Neil, put behind bars years ago is on the loose and is headed for Pine Falls to seek revenge.

The Governor, who has a hidden agenda, threatens to jeopardize the Pumpkin Festival which raises the funds the town desperately needs, unless Chief Patrick assists him as he was the only one who had outsmarted the killer previously.

Chief Patrick knows that many lives including his own are in danger, especially as many tourists and guests are in town for the Festival and this serial killer won't stop until he has taken his revenge.

He would need Katey's extraordinary observation skills and her lovable and intelligent German Shepherd, Leroy, for this case.
