One of the most widely used techniques in literature is the use of toponyms in the fiction text as one of the stylistic means. This is especially evident in the work of the outstanding English writer, linguist and philologist, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The work has an extensive toponymicon. Unfortunately, to date, there is no comprehensive description of the toponymic system of The Lord of the Rings.
