This issue of Feminist Review presents new empirical research carried out in a range of contexts but with the common theme of interrogating existing theorizations of gender, 'race' and class. It also addresses global policy agendas and transition points in women's lives. The focus on empirical work leads to consideration of issues in research methodology.
