Thirty-six-year-old Emma Taylor has returned to her childhood home - a remote Cumbrian village. She holds a big secret, but she also has a plan.

A plan to win back the man she loves; build the career she surrendered and find the most precious thing in her life - the child she gave away for adoption. This is a story about secrets in families and the havoc they can cause. It's also about regret, redemption, relationships, jealousy, love and forgiveness.... or the lack of it. It is told through the eyes of five main characters whose lives become entwined because of a decision made eighteen years previously - the most traumatic and defining period in Emma's life
