Elements of Film Editing- Author: Kuldeep Sinha 'If you want to be a good Film Director then first be a good EditoR, ' thus said the veteran Indian film maker Hrishkesh Mukharjee. Within the closed doors of Editing room an Editor can make, create or break a film with his creative vision and expertise. A film Editor is just not a cutter and joiner but he is the most creative person in the film crew who holds the keys of a 'Good film'. A well shot film can be ruined by an unimaginative Editor and a 'poorly shot' film can be made interesting by the Editor's vision. The job of an Editor can best be compared with that of a chef who with the best ingredients at his disposal prepares delicious and lip licking delicacies by utilizing his innovative skills combined with proper quantity of ingredients and timing of heating or cooling the stuff while other may spoil the taste by his lack of knowledge, innovation and dedication. The book 'Elements of film Editing' deals with the concepts and principles of film Editing irrespective of the formats (celluloid or digital) being used for making a film however for the reference purpose I preferred celluloid format which has international technical standards in practice unlike its digital counterparts. . I am sure the book serves the purpose for which it is written.
