Originally published in New York in 1858, El Laud collects the writings of Cuban poets who lived in exile in the United States and supported Cuba's independence from Spain: Jose Maria Heredia, Miguel Teurbe Tolon, Jose Agustin Quintero, Pedro Santacilia, Pedro Angel Castellon, Juan Clemente Zenea and Leopoldo Turla.
