A playwright of world stature Mario Relich, Wasafiri Ek Alag Mausam (A Different Season), released in 2005, was the first Hindi film to grapple with the unsettling issue of how HIV-positive people are often denied basic rights. This screenplay, written by Mahesh Dattani, was commissioned by the NGO ActionAid. Told as a love story between an HIV-positive woman and a man she meets at a hospital, the film starred several widely acclaimed actors, including Nandita Das, Renuka Shahane, Anupam Kher and Rajit Kapur.
