TEXT IN GERMAN Special Exhibition on the Occasion of the 150th Birthday of Max Slevogt (1868-1932) The centrepiece of the display is a painting that recently emerged from a private collection and was thus unknown to research - "Skizze mit Flagge" ( Sketch with Flag, 1908) by Max Slevogt. It shows the beach of Noordwijk in Holland that the artist visited for a whole summer, but only once. The contrast with paintings and graphics by Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth highlights Max Slevogt's approach to this subject of a coastal landscape, which is an absolute rarity in his oeuvre. With numerous loans from important museums, the exhibition showcases a hitherto little known aspect of Sievogt's work that is wellknown primarily for his Palatine landscapes.
