Eduard Moerike

Originally published in 1957, this was the first biography and full account of Eduard Moerike's works to appear in English. One of the greatest German lyric poets, Moerike is, according to some critics equal to Goethe as a lyricist. This book was the first attempt to analyse Moerike's highly suggestive drawings, some of which are reproduced in the book. The contents of poems are summarized, so no prior knowledge of German is assumed, and a large number of poems are quoted in full.
