Asa McCawl was unaware that he had a cupid's¿ bullseye on his back. Hands down, Asa McCawl was the most handsome cowboy in Cooke County, Texas-maybe even in all of the Lone Star State. The stunningly beautiful Ollie McClarren had been plotting how to introduce herself to young Asa. Providence was riding shotgun with her on a shopping trip to Woolworths. Ollie saw Asa approaching and quickly dropped her lace handkerchief. It flittered to the ground just as Asa came astride. As Asa retrieved the hanky, his ears flushed red, shouting another story. Ollie took it all in, and her heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. The bedazzled cowpuncher took her hand but seemed to forget to turn it loose. Three heartbeats later he came to himself and made to turn away. That's when Ollie asked him straight out, "Would you like to escort me to the gospel meeting this evening?" Asa turned back and was all smiles.
The rest of the story is in the book and Grandmother Ollie's family bible. . . .

A "Leave It to Beaver" era kid from up north, near the Oklahoma border, Glenda Simpson grew up with her younger sister and her parents who thought life should be one long adventure. She is a news junky and likes to be well informed on current affairs. She attended Abilene Christian College before marrying and becoming a mother of two children. Her favorite author is James Michener, who introduced the world to her in full color. Her novel, Cheatiebo, the Folklorist, is her top bucket list item and possibly her swan song performance. Writing has always been gratifying to Glenda, and she feels that God has richly blessed her earthly sojourn.
