When Adam and Grandma go shopping, they come home with more than just groceries. Ernie, the deaf dog, was lost and had nowhere to go. Grandma and Adam find him and decide to keep him. Ernie learns the signs that Adam teaches him and becomes Ernie, the lucky and very much loved dog.
